Welcome

We extend a special welcome to our visitors to the ASJEL website. Together we can discover our reality, our objectives and our activities.

ASJEL regroups 32 institutions of higher education, under the responsibility of the Society of Jesus, in Europe and Lebanon. It is a rather recent association which is aware that all its members have to participate in a common mission.

The institutions of ASJEL know that to share a mission is increasingly an advantage and a benefit, and also a commitment to quality, especially at a time when Europe is rediscovering its own genuine reality, after historical divisions; and opening up the way for a true harmonised European university space.

Our main objective, namely, to nurture the Christian faith, by promoting justice in dialogue with other cultures and religions, is expressed, as a service of society in ways that respect the differences. The Jesuit heritage, notably in its Ratio Studiorum that goes back to the late 16th century, inspires our efforts to train 'men and women for others', who are free and responsible citizens, equipped with critical minds and values, flexible and prepared for the service of society, particularly its poor and deprived members.

These features characterise our concept of academic quality, and are at the basis of our commitment to continuous improvement in teaching and research. Our willingness to work together does not mean that we are closed in on ourselves, but helps us to rediscover the importance of working together with other institutions of higher education, and reinforces our participation in European and international networks.
